Because I could not stop for Death
Question 1 of 4by Emily Dickinson
Poem
Because I could not stop for Deathā
He kindly stopped for meā
The Carriage held but just Ourselvesā
And Immortality.
We slowly droveāHe knew no haste
And I had put away
My labor and my leisure too,
For His Civilityā
We passed the School, where Children strove
At Recessāin the Ringā
We passed the Fields of Gazing Grainā
We passed the Setting Sunā
Or ratherāHe passed Usā
The Dews drew quivering and chillā
For only Gossamer, my Gownā
My Tippetāonly Tulleā
